CSD 2022
The Conflict, Security and Development conference is held each year by a collective Kings College London Student body. It is an international conference that gathers many academic experts together for a two day discussion.
This year, I was asked to produce a logo to embody their chosen theme, Post-conflict Development. This will touch on what happens after war, how narratives are constructed and what happens when international actors leave a conflict zone.
I took some time to research the topic and develop some imagery around it. The first image this conjured was a bridge, symbolising the re-building both of physical structures but also of relationships. The next image to cross my mind was hands reaching out and reconnecting.
From this imagery, I recalled the Golden Bridge in Vietnam that I had seen, a new structure with two hands appearing to hold up the bridge. As Vietnam is a country that has been rebuilding itself post-conflict, I felt this was a very relevant image to take inspiration from for the logo design.
I sketched the logo using Adobe Illustrator, choosing to make the hand more detailed and contrast this with a more abstract take on the bridge. I was pleased with the effect this created and look forward to seeing it representing the conference next year.
